Changing Electric Scooter to a Gas Scooter?

I have a mongoose M350 electric scooter, with motor and everything removed, and trying to put a weed whacker engine on it. I have everything i think i need, but i need a way to hold it on and to hold the gear to the shaft on the motor.

Wouldn't it be easier to go with say an electric hub kit like this

what you are trying to do is a total custom conversion which will require welding skills, and or some engineering know how. I seriously doubt if the clutch on the weedwacker is designed or will withstand the torque required to move a person weighing over 50lbs. In addition you will have to consider the gear ratio, what size gear will you use to drive the motor, and is the ratio small enough to move a person on level ground or on a hill.

This is a crazy project since you are expecting it to drive down the street, and it is probably is totally illegal and unsafe too boot. This would be like trying to put a steam engine in a 4x4 truck, and expecting it to get you to work and back. I think not, your best bet is either putting an electric hub kit on a regular bike or your bike, and or spending the money for a real gas powered scooter.
