When buying a battery for an electric scooter, what specific differences could I expect the voltage/amps make?

The recommended voltage is 24VDC and the rated current is 22amps. The output is 350 watts. What voltage and amp batteries would work and what differences could I expect? For instance, if I have two 12 V/10 Ah batteries connected in series, would that work (and what would be the combined voltage and amps)? Or would one 12V/22 Ah battery work? Thank you.

You say the rated voltage of the scooter motor is 24VDC and it is rated at 22Amps... that makes 528 watts. (watts=volts*amps)

So, what is the 350Watts you mention?

The voltage that you supply to a DC motor determines how fast it will turn. The motor will turn about 1/2 its full speed if you only apply 1/2 the voltage (12VDC). And, the current will be a little higher for the same load.

So, in order to get this puppy running at its designed speed, you will need a 24VDC power source. That means two 12V batteries wired in series. (one + terminal wired to the other battery's - terminal). Or, one 24V battery.

The actual current that a DC motor draws depends mostly on it's load. If you are going up a steep hill it will draw much more current than if you were traveling on a level surface; or less yet if you were going downhill. It draws a very large amount when you first put the accelerator to the floor and when the scooter eventually speeds up, the current diminishes to its nominal level. If you overload the motor regularly, you stand a good chance of burning it up.

The number of amp/hours (Ah) your batteries can supply determines how long you can run before a recharge. If you connect two 22Ah batteries, and the scooter does draw 22A at average load, it will run for about 1 hour. If you put a lightweight child on it, use it on a smooth flat surface, it may only draw 11A, and would run for 2 hours. (amps*hours = Ah). So, if you need it to run longer, more Ah. If you want to save money and get fewer Ah, then it won't run as long.

Keep in mind that the Ah rating of a battery is when it is new, and will decline with age.

The Ah ratings of both batteries should be identical.
