UK: There is a derelict garage near my property- how can I find out who it belongs to?

I live a cul-de-sac with a row of single-car garages. The one on the end is derelict and empty; although the garage door is locked, there is no roof on it and nothing in the interior. The floor is covered in weeds.

On the door is an old plaque stating that it belongs/ belonged to Southern Electric; the sign is so old that it has a 3-digit area code and the garage has not been disturbed in the fourteen years we've been living in the neighbourhood.

I'd like to take over ownership of the garage and fix it up so I can keep my scooter in there, as my house doesn't have a garage of it's own.

I rang Southern Electric and they have no record of the garage being on thier books, however the man on the phone told me it may have been used to store kit and some point when the garages were first built in the early 1970s.

Is there any way I can trace the legal owner now? I'd be prepared to pay a small amount but haven't the faintest idea where to start! Thanks!
