I was walking my dog in the local park recently when a young lad and his Mum came in taking the short cut to school. The lad was on a little scooter, you know the ones, they've been all the rage for the last year or two. They came in through the gate onto the grass of the park and the little lad jumped on his scooter and set off into the distance.

I watched in amazement, there wasn't a big slope and you'd expect the grass to stop him really quickly. Of course, he was riding on a battery driven scooter and only stopped when his Mum called to him.

As soon as I was back indoors I was on to Google researching the subject. I had never heard of them beforehand but it seems that there are a couple of manufacturers, with more on the way. With top speeds approaching 10 mph and with a ride time of up to 45 minutes from each charge, these little vehicles are going to provide a lot of fun for the youngsters. Take note that the maximum rider weight is only around 50kg, so most normal sized Moms and Dads are TOO BIG !!.

It's very important that the riders of these machines wear adequate protection, crashing into something solid at 10 mph can do a lot of damage to a small head. At the very least you should wear a cycle helmet when riding on an electric scooter, knee and elbow pads might also be a good idea especially for the learner drivers.

I'm convinced that this could be top of many a young lads Christmas list, so we've scoured the internet to find the very best deals on electric scooters. I imagine that some of them (especially the cheaper ones) will be in short supply by the time that Christmas rolls around, so I'd advise you to order early.
